(Raspberry Flower)

"I had no idea how keepers could tell one honey from another. . . Are different honeys found in different parts of the hive, or on separate parts of the comb? The answer was simpler that anything I had thought of. Beekeepers follow the flower, moving hives to places where the tree or shrub that interest them is in the height of bloom."
Corby Kummer, The Atlantic Monthly Magazine

BRANCHES VARIETAL HONEY

Bees produce honey from the nectar of blooming plants, but the nectar produced by one flower will be different than that of another flower. Our mission is to seek out distinctive California flora which produce honeys that have the qualities in aroma, taste, texture and color reflective of their particular species of flower. We currently collect the following varieties found in the rich and diverse terrain of California and the Northwest:

Raspberry Flower
Citrus Blossom
Black Button Sage
Wild Blackberry
Range Wildflower

All of our Branches honeys are gathered directly from the hives and bottled unpasturized, thus maintaining the multitude of health benefits associated with honey that are often lost in traditional commercial honey from overheating to eliminate crystallization.

Citrus Blossom
Gathered from California’s Central Valley where citrus trees grow in abundance, this spring’s crop is the best in years. Perfect weather with lots of rain and cool conditions produced an elixir that is pale in color with an aroma of an orange tree in bloom. It’s taste is sweet and seductive and will bring back memories of our youth where we sucked out the nectar of blooming flowers making our mouths water!

Black Button Sage
Gathered in the lower foothills of the California coastal mountain ranges, the Black Button Sage plant is one of those miracles of nature...when pollinated, the bees produce a honey that will not granulate and is amazingly smooth in texture.

Wild Blackberry
Summertime is often associated with picking of wild blackberries along the road side. The thorny vines shoot out tiny white flowers allowing the bees to gather their yearly nectar. Light amber in color, this honey has a very pleasant bouquet with a silky smooth texture.

Raspberry Flower
A very rare find, the flower of the raspberry plant creates a distinctive berry taste that is both pleasantly sweet and tart. This is our scarcest honey, and sells out quickly, so be sure to place your order early.

Range Wildflower
A unique blend of spring wildflower honey from the distinct flora of the California Sierra foothills, this limited gathering is from hives placed among fruit trees, shrubs and flowers in full bloom. It is pleasantly herbal with a tangy finish.
